What does Platform As a Service Mean (PAAS) Mean?

A platform-as-a-service (PaaS) is a cloud services offering where you rent the data hosting infrastructure from a provider and use the provider’s development framework.

In other words, you get access to the provider’s servers, networking firewalls and development tools, runtime, and operating system (OS).

The advantage of PaaS is that you can start developing new applications in the cloud right away. You don’t have to spend any time or money acquiring specific tools, selecting coding languages, and other requirements of a thinner infrastructure-only offering.
